A Place to Remember
The labyrinth brings together Carol Shields' literary legacy and the idea of a garden as a place for reflection.
Carol Shields was an internationally celebrated writer whose work included novels, short stories and poetry. Her interest in labyrinths appears in her novel Larry's Party, in which the central character becomes a designer of mazes and labyrinths.
The memorial labyrinth opened in 2009 in King's Park. Its winding pathways invite people to move through the garden at their own pace.
Visitors can walk the labyrinth, spend time in quiet reflection, or simply enjoy the garden. It remains a public space for remembrance and contemplation.
The Legacy Brick Program
A commemorative brick becomes part of the labyrinth's design. Bricks can mark birthdays, anniversaries, memorials and other significant occasions.
The program supports Manitoba Arts Network's work connecting artists and communities through visual and performing arts.
