Book a variety of exhibitions at a subsidized monthly rate of $150 up to 2 years in advance.

The Manitoba Arts Network sends high-quality exhibitions to rural communities across the province. The Arts Network covers all expenses such as shipping, insurance, packing and crating, signage, didactic labels, and artist fees for a one-month member booking fee of $150, $200 for non-members and $500 for institutions.

How do artists take part
A jury from an annual call for submission selects exhibitions on a yearly basis. A Jury selects both emerging and professional artists, presenting a range of media and themes, and features both challenging contemporary work and traditional approaches to art-making through solo, two-person, and group exhibitions.

About the Touring Arts Program

The Manitoba Arts Network sends high-quality exhibitions to rural communities across the province. The Arts Network covers all expenses such as shipping, insurance, packing and crating, signage, didactic labels, and artist fees for a one-month member booking fee of $150, $200 for non-members and $500 for institutions.

Interested in booking an exhibition? Here’s how:

  1. Review the exhibits.
  2. Identify the months you wish to book the exhibit link to the booking sheet is here:
  3. Contact visualarts@mbartsnet.ca
  4. Confirm availability
  5. Sign a digital contract
  6. We coordinate the shipping and email you the times and dates
  7. We will invoice you during the month you receive the exhibit
  8. You hang and install the exhibit
  9. MAN sends you an exhibition evaluation to complete

An average touring season coordinated by MAN yields:

  • 4-5 visual arts exhibition
  • 20-25 bookings by over 20 communities in Manitoba, NW Ontario, and North Dakota.
  • 8 free artist-led workshops for members (dependent on grants)
  • Resulting in up to $15,000 in artist fees throughout the year (dependent on grants)

Gardewine generously donates all transportation and shipping services for our touring exhibitions. The Manitoba Arts Council generously supports our touring program.

Selected exhibitions typically tour for a minimum one-year period, with the possibility of touring for up to two years.

What is the Manitoba Arts Network Call for Touring Exhibitions?

The Manitoba Arts Network (MAN) invites artists and curators to submit exhibition proposals for consideration in its provincial touring program. Selected exhibitions will tour through a network of galleries and arts organizations across Manitoba.

Who can apply?

Professional artists, curators, and collectives based in Canada are welcome to apply. Emerging, mid-career, and established artists working in any visual art medium are encouraged to submit.

What types of exhibitions are eligible?

Eligible exhibitions may include painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, textile, video, installation, and digital works. Both solo and group exhibitions are accepted. Exhibitions should be adaptable to a variety of spaces and audiences.

What should I include in my submission?

A complete submission should include:

  • Exhibition Proposal (1-2 pages): A clear description of the exhibition, its theme, and its components.
  • Artist/Curator Statement (max. 500 words): Insights into the creative process and intentions behind the work.
  • Artist/Curator CV (max. 3 pages)
  • Image List: Titles, dimensions, media, and year for each work.
  • High-Resolution Images: 10-15 images of the proposed artworks (JPEG format).
  • Technical Requirements: Any special installation needs or equipment.
Is there an application fee?

No, there is no fee to apply.

What are the selection criteria?

Proposals are evaluated based on:

  • Artistic merit
  • Cohesiveness of the exhibition
  • Feasibility for touring (size, installation requirements, adaptability)
  • Suitability for diverse audiences
  • Alignment with Manitoba Arts Network’s goals of fostering cultural engagement in rural and northern communities
What are the deadlines and key dates?
  • Submission Deadline: January each year
  • Notification of Results: within 2 months of the deadline date
  • Exhibition Tour Begins: in two years time.

How long is the touring period?

Selected exhibitions typically tour for 12 to 18 months, with exhibitions rotating between various partner venues.



Are there any fees or compensation for selected artists

Yes. Selected artists receive:

  • Exhibition Fees: Artists typically receive an honorarium of $200 per month while the exhibition is on tour. However, if the Manitoba Arts Network (MAN) secures a touring grant, artists will be paid according to CARFAC standards for a specified number of venues.
  • Shipping Costs: Covered by Manitoba Arts Network.

Promotion: Manitoba Arts Network will promotional materials and assist with publicity.

How will my work be promoted during the tour?

The Manitoba Arts Network creates a promotional package, including exhibition guides, press releases, social media posts, and posters. Additionally, artists may be invited to participate in artist talks, workshops, and opening events.

Can I submit more than one proposal?

Yes, applicants may submit multiple proposals, provided each one is distinct and complete.

How do I submit my proposal?

Proposals must be submitted through the Manitoba Arts Network’s online submission portal. Ensure that all required materials are included and properly formatted.

Are there additional opportunities for artists through Manitoba Arts Network?

Yes! In addition to the touring program, Manitoba Arts Network offers professional development workshops, mentorships, and networking events for artists.
