Online Webinar: How to Write a Professional Development Grant Application to submit to the Manitoba Arts Council with Shawna Dempsey

May 10, 2022 @ 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

Join Zoom (Meeting ID: 857 9874 3111)

This webinar will focus on requesting funding from Manitoba Arts Council (MAC) to be able to attend MB Showcase in Portage la Prairie October 27-30, 2022. It will be geared towards arts administrators, including volunteer art administrators of rural arts organizations.

Why do I need to apply for a grant?
Unfortunately MAN will no longer be able to provide travel subsidies to attend MB Showcase, because of changes to MAN’s funding structure. MAN is working hard to find new sources to continue the travel subsidies, but it is likely that they will not be in place in time for this year. The good news is that you can apply for travel funds of up to $1000 from MAC.

In order to make things easier for MAN members, guest Shawna Dempsey and MAN will walk everyone through the entire process of applying for a Professional Development Grant on Manitoba Arts Council’s online system. This will include a step-by-step explanation of how to register as an individual on MAC’s portal, including what to put on your resume. It will also go through the Professional Development Grant application form step-by-step, and discuss what types of things the jurors will be looking for, what pitfalls to avoid and sample language to use. This will include budget. The workshop will answer any questions. With this support, we anticipate it will only take 1-2 hours for you to submit the grant.

Shawna Dempsey is an established artist and Co-Executive Director of Mentoring Artists for Womens’ Art (MAWA). She has written grants professionally for other artists and arts organizations for the past three decades.
