Green Acres Art Collective

September 3 @ 10:00 am September 30 @ 4:00 pm

This exhibit features the works of eight Green Acres Art Centre student artists, together with their educators and mentors, Graham and Vera Clarke.

About the educators:
Both Vera and Graham were educated at the University of Manitoba, in the 1960’s. Vera has her BFA and Graham a Diploma in Art dating from that time. They have spent time as artists in Mexico, New York and Toronto, before returning to Manitoba. Here, they took on the role of “Artists in Residence”, a government program which sought to bring the gift of art to the far northern corners of Manitoba. Continuing in this vein, the couple took on the task and was instrumental in establishing the Green Acres Art Centre, teaching there since the Centre’s inception. Graham has also taught at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The Clarkes’ art works appear in commercial buildings, government offices, and private homes across Manitoba and beyond.

About the students:
The participating students in this exhibit have chosen this class at GAAC to develop their individual skills of creation and expression. We all see the world differently and here we explore these ideas in a healthy, relaxing environment; learning to interpret our thoughts and feelings through the creation of art. In doing so, we direct our energies in a positive way, thereby helping ourselves, each other, and the community beyond, to navigate through this often chaotic world.
Hopefully, you, as a member of the audience, are left with a sense of beauty in some form…and maybe even a ‘little something’ to feed the heart and soul.

This exhibit is a slice of art life in a small corner of the Manitoba Interlake.
