MB Showcase 2020 CANCELLED due to COVID-19 concerns
After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel MB Showcase 2020 scheduled for October 22-25th in Gimli, MB.
The Board discussed and approved the cancellation after the Province of Manitoba released its Restoring Safe Services- Roadmap to Recovery plan. It is not currently identified in the plan (even in the future phases) when large gatherings and performing arts venues will resume. Too much is unknown, and the board expects that in the fall we will probably still have social distancing, caps on gathering numbers, and restricted interprovincial travel. We know everyone looks forward to meeting in October and networking, however it is of the utmost importance to keep our members and artists safe and slow the spread of COVID-19.
We will be exploring ways to proceed with the RBC Emerging Artist Program and the Indigenous Artist Development Program, which may include conducting online mentorship online, culminating into live streamed pitches for our presenters.
We are exploring offering alternative programming which may include:
- One on one coaching
- Online Webinars – to support members, encourage digital innovation in lieu of live programming and well-being.
- Artist/agent pitches through live streaming – if we find members will have gaps in future programming to fill.
- Connect presenters with artists and agents to promote collaboration and discussion
Stay tuned for updates as we continue to adapt to this ever-evolving situation.
For now, we can all look forward to seeing each other at MB Showcase 2021, taking place October 21-24 in Gimli, MB.
Every year, the Manitoba Arts Network invites some of the best Canadian talent to showcase their work for arts organizations across the province at Showcase. Attendees have the opportunity to experience 15 incredible performances, attend professional development workshops, enjoy visual art exhibits, and engage in networking time over three fulfilling days. The showcases of talented artists from across the country gives delegates the chance to preview and meet performers they may want to bring to their community during the upcoming season. The preeminent event of its kind in Manitoba, Showcase provides opportunity for rural and northern arts presenters to exchange ideas and develop or renew relationships.
What last year’s Showcase delegates had to say:
“I like meeting one on one with an expert, best way to gain knowledge about a specific topic.”
“I always enjoy the showcases. I appreciate the wide range of options presented, and the short interviews after each performance.”
“Good chance to talk to the artists themselves.”
“Meeting with the artists is a highlight for our organization– SMC.”
“The emerging artists were some of the best performers of the weekend!”
